It is a good time to be coming to Augusta.
The world’s greatest golfers are all seem to be hitting their stride before the Augusta the Masters. CBS and ESPN both would likely be set up for a ratings success; however, it can go ahead of if Tiger Woods near the top or is at top of the leaderboard next week.
It is a good time to be coming to Augusta.
It hasn’t even been a week since the United States suffered yet another humbling defeat in the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles but the USPGA has already started a complete overhauling of the current system in place.
Ted Bishop, the president of the USPGA has told the media that the association is looking into the option of creating a special task force that will look into the entire system of operations of the Ryder Cup which will have a say in everything, starting from how the captains are chosen to the selection of the final twelve members in the team.
Bishop said that he intends to give this task force a completely blank canvas and hope it can give the PGA some input. He also mentioned that the PGA is willing to take a step back from the action and listen to the advice of people who are directly involved in the action.
There have been reports that the likes of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will find places in this task force and will have a huge say in how things go about from now on.
Bishop did mention that there will be around ten to twelve members in the task force and most of them will be past or present players, and while he did not wish to name any potential member, sources do indicate the presence of Mickelson and Tiger Woods as well as Davis Love III.
Mickelson has been very vocal about his criticism of the current debacle of the US team in the Ryder Cup and although Tiger Woods was not a part of the side that lost the third consecutive Ryder Cup to Europe, the 14 time major winner is still the most sought after golfer in the world and the USPGA will turn to him.
Englishman Lee Westwood has backed Darren Clarke to take over from Paul McGinley as the next captain of the European Ryder Cup team ahead of the new edition of the prestigious tournament in 2016, believing that he is in the right moment of his career to take up the role.
World number one Rory McIlroy recently claimed that Clarke is the ideal choice to lead Europe back to the United States of America as they look to defend the title once again and now Westwood has also backed his long-time friend for the role.
According to the former world number one, it is the right time in the career of Darren Clarke to take over the captaincy of Team Europe. He added that he is very popular in the United States, where the next edition of the Ryder Cup will be held and he believes he would make a brilliant captain.
And it is not only the words of McIlroy or Lee Westwood, Clarke remains the bookies’ favourite to land the role as well unless his strained relationship with current skipper Paul McGinley proves a stumbling block.
Clarke and McGinley share a very cold relationship but according to Scotsman, his personal dislike for Clarke will, in no way, affect his selection process and everyone is in with a fair chance of becoming the captain of the 2016 edition.
Lee Westwood himself also harbours ambition to lead Europe in the Ryder Cup sometime in the future but for the moment, the 41 year old Englishman wants to concentrate on his playing career as he looks to land the elusive major title that he has been searching for after becoming the second highest points scorer in the history of the Ryder Cup just two points behind the legendary Nick Faldo in the rankings.

Adam Scott, the reigning champion at the Masters has stated that no player of his generation is wary of the threat posed by the world number one Tiger Woods to their chances of winning major titles, in what is being seen as yet another blow to the already diminishing status of the American.
Woods managed to win five titles in 2013 but he was left ruing his missed chances at the majors, leaving him on 14 titles, the last of which was won way back in 2008.
The situation Tiger currently finds himself in is in stark contrast to what happened during his heyday, when his fellow preys were visibly in awe of the American, especially while playing at a major event.
Scott also stated that he doesn’t think Tiger has become less of a factor, adding he is still a favorite in the minds of everyone, including the fellow players on Tour.
He mentioned that he thinks the way the majors have been shared around in recent years, everyone tends to give themselves a chance of clinching the title, adding that the likes of him and Justin Rose have put years of experience behind them and have improved drastically over the last two years and they have reached a position where they are no longer afraid of Tiger Woods or even Phil Mickelson or even a young contender like Rory McIlroy.
Scott mentioned that Jack Nicklaus also had a run of dominance like that and he is still the greatest player of all time, but he also admits that it wouldn’t surprise him if Tiger Woods came back to win a major title this year but he admits his generation feels the time to be afraid of him is over because they have a lot of confidence on their own abilities.
